Bike Riding with Maia

After watching Eva have so much fun riding bikes with her friends each week, Maia asked to get in on some two-wheel action herself. She just competed her first 8 weeks of bike riding school and, I have to say, it was time and money well spent! Maia tends to be a little more reserved in group activities, but she jumped (rode!) right in and very quickly found her comfort zone.

This group of kids (4-5 year olds) leaves the parents behind and rides with the instructors on their own. It was a little nerve wracking to let her go off on her own that first time but when she came back out of breathe and with a huge smile and a red face, it was game on! Bike riding school quickly became her favorite weekly activity. Each week I was surprised how the instructors pushed the kids (distance and comfort zone) and how each week Maia really did get better and more confident.

By the end of the session, Maia accomplished a huge goal. She conquered the ENTIRE (competition) BMX dirt track! This is a BIG deal! The class rode street trails, mountain bike trails, and practiced skills, but the excitement and confidence she felt when she completed the BMX circuit for the first time was amazing!

Now that class is over, Maia has asked for a big kid bike with gears. Sure, ok... I didn't know she knew about gears, but she must be talking bikes with the kids on the streets these days. She such a Durangatang!

The bikes are put away for the winter but Maia starts Snow Burners in just a couple of weeks (a new gang of kids she will ski with each week) so stay tuned and send happy thoughts for no broken bones.

Hasta...
